Feedback- Terms of Reference

After my meeting with Dave regarding my ToR, there are a few changes I need to make and a few points to keep in mind when I come to write the full report.

It may be useful to look at the Hybrid approach as I could use prototyping when composing the emails to send to applicants. This is part of the Agile methodology a it won't be completed before production. Also, I shouldn't use Gabrielles name but call her by her job title 'Software Manager'. Throughout the report I refer to the system as a form but it would be more clear if I called it an application process or system.

It is important to clarify ideas more instead of using vague language. Also, I need to reference facts and ideas from others unless the information is my own opinion.

Regarding  the technical side, I should separate the asp.net sides and not mix the language with frameworks such as MVC. It needs to be clear that the server side scripting languages I am comparing is ASP and PHP. I need to add more information about SQL Server and research ODBC.

Points to consider when writing the full report are:

  • Widows and Orphans combinations
  • Cross reference diagrams and captions
  • User Chapters
  • Referencing
  • Evaluation- use 1st person
  • Page numbers

Week 11- 05/12/2011

I am still waiting for most of the questionnaires and therefore have left that aspect and I am not comparing existing systems.

I have researched how to send an email withing PHP and it isn't as complicated as I thought.
I am just about back on track with my work after my abscence and I am looking forward to doing alot more work on my project over the Christmas holidays.

Emma

Aims for Christmas holiday:
  • Analyse questionnaires
  • Complete research on existing systems
  • Prepare for consildation week
  • Read up and practice with MySQL and PHP
  • Decide upon development method
  • Start to put together overall report

Week 10- 28/11/2011

I have returned to University today and therefore I am trying to catch up with my project aswell as other University work.

I have recieved an email from Gabrielle to let me know she is working on my questionnaire along with Eija and Michela. She has also sent me some email addresses of students at the EUI so I can send them my user questionnaire.

Aims for W/C 5/11/2011:
  • Analyse questionnaires

Week 9- 21/11/2011

This week I have not done any of my project due to a family bereavement.

Week 6- 4/11/2011

I have now handed in my Terms of Reference and therefore I will now research ideas I mentioned. For example, deciding which system methodology to use for my project.

I am still waiting for a reply from my client regarding the questionnaires I sent for both her and those students at the EUI who had used the form. Once I have received these, I can analyse them along with the questionnaires I handed out in Huddersfield.

I am also keen to receive the feedback on my Terms of Reference and make any changes hat Dave recommends.

Emma

Aims for W/C 8/11/2011:

  • Further research into ideas mentioned in Terms of Reference
  • Analyse questionnaires
  • Make changes to Terms of Reference

Week 5- 27/10/2011

This week I have been working on my Terms of Reference again. I have been doing extra research so I won't have as much to do in my final report. This means I can spend more time building my form and researching the languages and database system.

I finished my questionnaires and once Dave has checked these, I can send the client and EUI student questionnaire to Gabrielle. I want to include requirements collected from the questionnaire in my Terms of Reference, so hopefully I will recieve these back soon.

Emma

Aims for W/C 01/11/2011:
  • Finish Terms of Reference
  • Proof read and hand in

Week 4 (20/10/2011)

During the past week, I have been working hard on my terms of reference which I aim to hand to Dave 1 week on Tuesday.
It has been going well and I received a specification list from Gabrielle at the EUI.
I am struggling with what to research where web forms are concerned. I haven't yet found any useful information on application forms specifically.

I have completed my Gannt chart and will be sending out questionnaires through Huddersfield University and the EUI to gain usability and design ideas.

I am 90% sure I will be using MySQL and PHP but this is something I would like to discuss with Dave in my next meeting.

Emma

Aims for W/C 24/10/2011:
  • Continue with Terms of Reference

First meeting and Project Propsoal deadline

This is my first post and hopefully there's a lot more to come!!

This week I have been busy finishing my project proposal as it has to be handed in this Friday. I do a feel a little relieved that I already have a supervisor and a project title as I have heard people panicking as they have neither!

Dave pointed out a few points that I had missed from my proposal but I have decided to just go into more detail in my terms of reference instead of adding them in here.

I am pleased with the feedback Dave gave to me during the meeting but it has made me worry more about the actual building of the system. Therefore, I am going to compare PHP and MySQL alongside Visual Basics to make a final decision on which programs I will use. I will also look into Jquery but I have never heard of or used this before!!

Each week I will make a blog post relating to my final year project and also add aims for the upcoming week.
Thats all for now folks!!
Emma

Aims for W/C 17/10/2011:
  • Decide on programs/languages to use for the creation of my system
  • Start my terms of reference ready for the deadline 4/11/2011
  • Research gathering requirements/questionnaires etc
  • Contact EUI and start on a clear specification
